Sports Massage is a special form of massage and is typically used before during and after athletic events. It helps prepare the athlete for peak performance increases blood circulation and lymph flow; drains away fatigue relieves swelling reduces muscle tension promotes flexibility and minimises injuries. Sports massage can also prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement whether a person is an athlete or a once a week jogger. There are many different types of sports massage available depending on the athlete and the sport involved e.g. pre and post event massage restorative and rehabilitative massage. Generally the therapist focuses on the problem area e.g. a frozen shoulder or pulled hamstring rather than giving a full body massage.
