Massage Awareness Week 2010

The IMTA's 2010 Massage Awareness Week took  place (mainly) between 1st and 7th November.  We planned to build on the success of last year's campaign which was run in conjunction with the Carers Association.  Our target this year was to raise €5,000 for the Carers Association and to bring the benefits of massage treatments to 500 carers.

During Massage Awareness Week IMTA members in 22 centres around the country  volunteered their time and skills to 'care for' the carers, have a cuppa and friendly chat with them before and after treatments - basically making them feel special for a short while.  These carers give so much of their time, energy and love to family members who require full-time care, our aim is to give something back to them during this week.  At the same time we  raised the profile of the IMTA and the benefits of massage on general health and well being.

Centres were located in: Athlone, Ballina, Bray, Claremorris, Clonmel, Dublin (4): Beaumont Hospital, Clondalkin, Rathmines & Porterstown, Navan, Enniscorthy, New Ross, Mullingar, Portlaoise, Kilkenny and Kerry (3): Killarney, Tralee and Caherdaniel, Gort, Tipperary town, Clonmel, Cappaghmore and Westport.

Very special thanks are due to the many therapists who volunteered their time in organising events and offering treatments to the carers.  We "cared for" 457 carers and raised €4,140 which is an amazing amount in these recessionary times.
